How Kundli Milan works
Ashtakoot Guna Milan compares the Moon nakshatra and Moon sign of the bride and groom across eight kootas, for 36 points in all.
The kootas are Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7 and Nadi 8. The later ones carry more weight.
Below 18 points is traditionally weak, 18–24 acceptable, 25–32 good and 33 or more excellent.
Nadi dosha (same nadi) and Bhakoot dosha (signs 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 apart) matter most, but classic rules cancel them in some cases, for example when both Moon signs have the same lord.
Points are only the first step. A full match also checks Manglik status, the strength of the 7th house and the dashas both partners will run.
