Lesson 3

The 9 Planets (Navagraha)

Vedic astrology uses nine grahas. Rahu and Ketu are not physical planets: they are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, always exactly opposite each other.

1. Sun (Surya) — soul, father, authority
2. Moon (Chandra) — mind, mother, emotions
3. Mars (Mangal) — energy, courage, property
4. Mercury (Budh) — intellect, speech, business
5. Jupiter (Guru) — wisdom, teachers, growth
6. Venus (Shukra) — love, beauty, comfort
7. Saturn (Shani) — discipline, delay, hard work
8. Rahu — desire, the unusual, foreign things
9. Ketu — detachment, spirituality, the past
